Baltimore Family Photography // Rawlings Conservatory

It is always a huge honor when another creative (and especially a photographer!) asks me to photograph their family! The very talented Maria of Maria Ortiz Photography contacted me about some Baltimore family photography in the early winter, so a session at Rawlings Conservatory was perfect. We did a few photos outside, but mostly spent time in the warm humidity of the conservatory, which is such a relief from the dry Maryland winters. Maria and her husband are so in love and ADORABLE together, oh my goodness. Their two boys are also SO sweet, and I loved getting to see and document all the interactions between brothers, parents, and parent-child combinations. :)

Rawlings Conservatory has become super popular for photo sessions in the past few years! My tips to you if you'd like shoot there: make sure to contact them as early as possible and pay the permit fee. I think the permit fee (currently $100) is totally worth it for clients. It is fully protected from the weather but still has full natural light, there are abundant plants from three different climates, and it's just an overall fun experience to learn about the plants during a session. There is one big room with especially tall ceilings with tropical plants (like HUGE palm trees). There are also three wider rooms with separate climates, which include the desert room, the Mediterranean room, and the tropical room. There's also an entire room for the orchid garden! As someone who had trouble keeping an orchid alive... I sure am awed by this room. (Check out a beautiful wedding where we did lots of bride and groom portraits in the orchid room on my blog.) You can also reserve the Rawlings space for weddings! Let me know if you're getting married here or want to create some amazing Baltimore family photography with me, too.
