How To Coordinate Outfits For Baltimore Family Photos
I love the outfits this family all chose for their Maryland family photo session! I’m all for everyone wearing the same outfit, or going all over the board with colors, but if you’re thinking about coordinated but different looks for each person, here are some tips that their outfit combinations followed. In case you’re wondering what to wear for your next family portrait session:
Pick 2-3 colors for your color scheme. This family picked cream, brown, and forest green!
Don’t do all solids or all patterns. Mairead’s dress has neutral polka dots, David’s got a subtle corduroy texture on his pants, and their son has a plaid shirt! These are offset my solid colors in David’s sweater, their son’s pants, etc.
Don’t be afraid to incorporate elements of comfort. In this case, letting their toddler wear his sneakers instead of dressy, potentially un-comfy shoes makes the whole session easier. (I did the same thing with my kids for our family photos this year - my son wore his black and red sneakers and a buffalo plaid sweater - so cute :))
One of the best parts of my tiny sessions is seeing families grow over the years. Mairead and David got married several years ago on a beautiful autumn day at Sunny Slope Farm in Harrisonburg, Virginia. It’s a day I remember so fondly…some of their photos are still at the top of my wedding portfolio page! Several years later, they had a sweetest baby boy. You’d never know it, but he was saying “no, no, no,” during this whole session haha. Several bites of granola bar later, we managed to help him warm up and snuggle with his parents for some cute shots.
